1999 Season Review

Regional Champions!
1999 was APCsport and Andrew's first full championship year, and a very successful one at that! The 1600cc class that the team were contesting was the most popular of '99, with regular entries of 25 cars. Coupled with this was Andrew and Tim's relative lack of experience at the venues the championship was to visit; some of the crews had been to the events ten or more times.

The first event of the year, in April, was problematic to say the least. Regular co-driver Tim Slattery was stuck in Thailand, his flight home cancelled at the last minute. Fortunately, one of Andrew's long time friends stepped into the breach and saved the day. Having never so much as seen pace notes, Dan Pearce volunteered to sit in for Tim. The crew gelled immediately, scoring an amazing 3rd in class and picking up APCsport's first trophy to boot. With less than 100 miles experience and no finishes prior to this event, it was a huge step forward for the whole team.

It was a sign of things to come; the rest of the year confirmed Andrew's speed with a string of top results, with both Dan and Tim sat beside him. At the fastest event of the season, the APCsport crew were running 2nd in class and inside the top 20 until the car's engine expired. They surprised everyone at the wettest event in memory with staggering speed, and more top 3 in class results took their toll on the opposition through the year. Andrew was crowned ASEMC 1600cc Champion at the first attempt.
