Andrew, who has been selected for awards with the UK Motor Sport Association previously, will travel to Paris with co-driver and long time friend Dan Pearce to take part in the fiercely contested Dakar Challenge semi-finals against 10 of the best crews from across Europe. Five crews will go through to the final in Morocco at the end of November and fight it out for the grand prize: a fully supported drive on the Paris Dakar Rally 2006.
Andrew and Dan have been flat out preparing for the semi final since learning they had been selected a few days ago. Andrew has been brushing up on his off road driving skills by spending some time training with Ian Wright, multiple UK trials driving champion, who agreed to advise the duo on hearing of their selection. Meanwhile Dan tracked down APCsport's nearest Dakar competitor, Patsy Quick, who very kindly agreed to meet with the lads and discuss the adventure that is the Dakar.
Of our crew's selection Andrew said: 'We are honoured to be representing the UK in the fantastic Dakar Challenge and are raring to go! We've prepared for the semi-final as much as we possibly could in the short time we've had, and will give it maximum effort, as always. We are very much looking forward to meeting the other semi-finalists and indeed the whole Dakar Challenge team.'
Dan commented: 'To receive a call to represent the UK in motorsport is amazing. We've had so much support already; the Motor Sport Association UK has wished us luck and Patsy Quick was an absolute star to take some time out of her Dakar training to advise us on the potential pitfalls. We are eager to find out what awaits us this weekend in France!'
Andrew and Dan's bid to win the Dakar Challenge will be featured in Motor Sports Now Magazine and British Rally Championship Magazine in the very near future. Satellite TV channel Eurosport will be broadcasting the selection process for the Dakar Challenge, starting on December 5th.
